Mumbai, Maharashtra: The Dharavi redevelopment initiative has reached a significant milestone with construction beginning on rehabilitation homes for eligible residents at a 22-acre railway land parcel in Matunga, Mumbai.
The commencement follows a Bhoomi Poojan ceremony performed by Pranav Adani, Director of the Adani Group, marking the start of construction activity at the designated site.
The rehabilitation housing forms part of the wider effort to provide eligible Dharavi residents with formal housing as the area undergoes redevelopment. The use of the Matunga site represents an important step in advancing the project's rehabilitation component.
As work progresses, the project will be closely watched for its implications for urban housing, land utilisation and the broader transformation of one of Mumbai's most densely populated neighbourhoods.
The development also highlights the scale of coordination required to deliver housing-led urban renewal in a city where land availability and rehabilitation remain critical challenges.
