New Delhi | October 2026

Coal India Limited (CIL) has sustained its coal dispatch momentum into October, continuing the improvement recorded in September as the power sector remains dependent on reliable fuel supplies for electricity generation.

According to the Ministry of Coal, daily deliveries to power plants remained strong during the first three days of October, with dispatches reaching 1.75 million tonnes on October 1, 1.87 million tonnes on October 2, and 1.81 million tonnes on October 3. These figures followed substantial daily deliveries during the final days of September. <Cite refs={["turn449257search0","turn449257search3"]}/>

The improvement builds on a stronger performance in September 2026, when Coal India supplied approximately 48.9 million tonnes of coal to the power sector, representing year-on-year growth of around 10.6%. The company’s overall coal supplies during the month also increased, reflecting improved distribution and dispatch activity. <Cite refs={["turn449257search0","turn449257search3"]}/>

Coal India’s supply performance is supported by the utilisation of coal stocks at mine sites, improved coordination between production and dispatch operations, and efforts to strengthen coal evacuation. Rail and road transportation continue to play an important role in moving coal from mining regions to thermal power stations.

The sustained pace of deliveries is significant for India’s electricity infrastructure, where coal-based generation continues to serve as a major source of power. Maintaining dependable fuel movement is essential for supporting plant operations and managing fluctuations in electricity demand.

However, stronger dispatches do not automatically mean that power plants have fully rebuilt their coal inventories. Continued monitoring of supplies, transportation capacity and stock levels will remain important in the coming weeks.

For India’s energy and infrastructure sector, Coal India’s latest dispatch figures highlight the importance of efficient mining operations and dependable logistics in maintaining the flow of fuel to power generation facilities.
