The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) is preparing to extend its service jurisdiction across the Bengaluru Urban district, marking a significant expansion of the city’s water and wastewater infrastructure framework.

The proposed expansion will bring nearly 86 Gram Panchayats and 11 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) under the BWSSB’s jurisdiction.

The move is expected to create a more unified approach to water supply and sewerage management across Bengaluru’s rapidly urbanising peripheral areas, where development has expanded beyond the traditional municipal boundaries.

With Bengaluru continuing to experience rapid residential, commercial and industrial growth, extending organised water and sewerage services to surrounding local bodies could become increasingly important for supporting planned urban expansion.

The broader jurisdiction could also help improve coordination in areas such as water distribution, sewerage infrastructure, network expansion and long-term infrastructure planning.

The development comes as Bengaluru’s infrastructure requirements continue to grow alongside its expanding urban footprint, making integrated water and wastewater management increasingly critical to the city’s future.
