Approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, the project will be implemented under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) and is aimed at improving road connectivity between Muzaffarpur and Sonbarsa, located along the India–Nepal border.
The upgraded corridor is expected to improve traffic movement through several densely populated locations, including Muksudpur, Runni Saidpur, Thumma, Dumra, Bhutahi and Sonbarsa.
The highway will be designed for a maximum speed of 100 kmph, with an average operating speed of around 80 kmph. The corridor will also feature controlled median access with no at-grade median openings, supporting safer and smoother traffic flow.
Planned in line with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, the project is also expected to strengthen connectivity to industrial zones, railway stations and other logistics and economic hubs across the region.
The development could play a significant role in improving regional mobility, supporting logistics activity and strengthening Bihar's strategic road connection with Nepal.
